Yelagiri or Elagiri is Tamil Nadu’s best kept secret in the form of a hill station. This amazingly beautiful town is situated in the District of Vellore and on the Vaniyambadi - Tirupattur road is a bewitching location that has few competitors. The town is a veritable bloom of rose gardens, valleys and lakes etc where tourists can find peace or spend some quality time with their family or friends. Read on to know more about this beautiful town, the places to visit and also the lodging options that you can find here.
At first glance, Yelagiri might seem like a regular town on the hills but a closer inspection will reveal its beauty. Yelagiri is situated in the midst of four mountains and is at a height of 920 meters above sea level. It is 150kms away from Bangalore and is a good 250kms away from Chennai which makes it easy to reach though there can slight glitches. There is no public transport that directly connects Yelagiri from any of these major cities though the roads are in good condition. Take National Highway 7 out of Bangalore and National Highway 46 out of Chennai to reach Ponneri Junction and then a left to Yelagiri Hills. The nearest railway station is the Jolarpettai Junction and from here you can easily find taxis and buses to Yelagiri.
There has been recent tourist resurgence in Yelagiri that has indirectly led to all round development in the tourism sector. The greatest development is being seen in the hospitality industry where a number of nice hotels and restaurants have come up to cater to the needs of tourists. Tourists will find a lot of options when it comes to hotels and these ranges from budget ones to luxury resorts too in Yelagiri.
